Topic:

The C2RMF is unique in its dual role of conducting expert appraisals of objects and artworks
in French museums, both before they enter public collections and in actively collaborating
in their restoration, as well as combating the illicit trafficking of cultural property. Essential
to its mission are the material analyses performed on wooden artifacts using
archaeodendrometry. This online talk, titled "Heritage Wood: Archaeodendrometry in the
Service of Art," will provide a brief review of the fundamentals before discussing specific
examples that illustrate the various contributions of this discipline. The presentation will
elucidate the pivotal role of material analyses, particularly archaeodendrometry, in
facilitating expert evaluations, verifying the authenticity of artifacts, executing restoration
endeavors, and combating the illicit trafficking of cultural property. By showcasing specific
cases, the talk will demonstrate how these investigations support interdisciplinary efforts in
research, conservation, and restoration, thereby advancing the preservation of wood heritage.
