Online session on Detailed Study of European Medieval Gilding Techniques
This 60 minutes online session/talk discussing use of the European Medieval Gilding Techniques. Two professionals from different parts of Europe are invited as keynote speakers and will give a detailed talk on different aspects of the European Medieval Gilding Techniques: In this 60-minute online session, our guest panelists will be Dr. Kaja Kollandsrud, Associate Professor, Museum of the Cultural History (MCH), University of Oslo (Norway) and Dr. Beate Fücker, Conservator, Institute for Art Technology & Conservation (IKK) at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Numberg (Germany)
Upon the completion of the session by two keynote speakers, participants will get an overview of the following:
- Rich use of gilding techniques that have been identified on these colourful works from the period between 1100 and 1500
- Demonstrate the range of metals used, their application techniques and how they are combined with coloured glazed and varnishes.
- The variety of gilding methods used and the effects they create using tin foil and gold, silver, and part gold leaf in combination with coloured glazes and varnishes will be discussed in detail.
