This online event will bring together heritage professionals and artists to discuss the definition, documentation and limitations of inherent vice as a characteristic of material culture, conservation ethics and creative output. The panel will be hosted by Dr Ayesha Fuentes – Assistant Coordinator of the Theory History and Ethics of Conservation working group -- and composed of conservators Jessica Walthew (Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum) and Jessica Urick (Rhode Island School of Design) as well as Will Rawls, a performance artist working in choreography and new media. The event will be divided into an hour-long structured conversation between panellists, a short response from the working group Coordinator Dr Hélia Marçal, and an open discussion with attendees. A short list of readings, links and other resources will be assembled by the panellists and circulated to registered participants in advance of the meeting in order to facilitate discussion; this event will not be recorded.
