This two-day virtual lecture (online) will focus on the history and development of traditional Chinese papermaking.
The ICOM-CC Graphic Documents Working Group is very glad to invite Mr. Xiaohui YI, conservation scientist and paper historian from the National Library of China, to share his studies together with his student Ms. Cheuk-Kei CHAN (University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences). The lecture will present the history of papermaking raw materials including hemp, bast fibres and bamboo. In addition, the development of the papermaking techniques as well as the interaction between paper properties and the evolution of printing will also be discussed.
This is a great opportunity to learn and reflect on traditional Chinese paper not only from a scientific point of view, but also in accordance with specific historical and cultural contexts.
