ICOM-CC Environmental Guidelines Project, 07-02-2015
The issue of proper museum climates for objects and collections has been debated for decades.
Until recently, climate guidelines have been quite stringent for all types of objects and materials.
However, the debate has intensified as efforts are being made to develop more flexible climate guidelines to deal with two major concerns:
- calls for more energy efficiency in museums and storage facilities, and
- a huge increase in requests for loans between museums with and without climate control systems.
The objective of this project is to develop an ICOM-CC statement on museum climates for permanent exhibitions and loans, with the participation of as many ICOM-CC members as possible.
The statement will be presented to the membership for electronic vote before the triennial meeting in Copenhagen.
What is your experience with permanent collections housed in historic buildings?
- in different regions (including Western Europe)?
- with no climate control systems?
- could you share data?
- the relation to the condition of your collections?
- your experience with loans?
- do you have case studies of good experience?
Give your opinions on the Bizot, AIC and AICCM as well as ASHRAE guidelines:
Which is “better”? Can they be “averaged” in some way?
