Metal 2019
September 2-6, 2019 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland
The ICOM-CC Metals Working Group and the Haute Ecole Arc Conservation-restauration Neuchâtel are pleased to announce the call for papers for the 9th Interim Meeting of the Metals Working Group.
This is the first time that the conference will take place in Switzerland and will be hosted by a University featuring a preeminent conservation-training program.
The conference will consider topics including:
Conservation treatment
Archaeological and historical metal objects
Modern metals
Sculpture, public art and monuments
Architectural metals
Military heritage
Industrial and technical cultural heritage
Composite artefacts
Preventive conservation and management of collections
Research studies in metal conservation
Study of traditional methods of metal crafts including the history of techniques
Advances in metal analysis and corrosion characterization
Deterioration and conservation of modern metals
Monitoring techniques for indoor metal collections (showcases, galleries and buildings)
Risk management analysis
Progress in conservation methods (e.g. stabilization techniques, cleaning, etc.)
Documentation and monitoring in metal conservation (e.g. 3D digitization, modelling, etc.
New approaches to metal protection such as coatings and corrosion inhibitors
All aspects of the conservation, study and research of metallic cultural heritage are welcome and papers may explore other topics.
The program for Metal 2019 will feature a dedicated Young Conservation Professionals session. Students and recent graduates (no more than 3 years from the end of their studies) are invited to submit abstracts for this session. If selected, their contribution will be published in the proceedings as short papers.
Submission Details
Please submit abstracts of 600 words or less for consideration. The work must be original and not previously published. Include the title, author's name(s), professional title(s), affiliation(s), email address(es) and a biography of no more than 300 words. In the case of multiple authors please list all authors, professional titles, affiliations and include an email address for each author, indicating the corresponding author.
For submissions to the Young Conservation Professionals session, please indicate that you are submitting a paper to this session by including the letters YCP before the title of your abstract. For example, “YCP Conservation of Aluminum Trojan Horses”.
Deadline for submissions: March 31, 2018
Due to the success and popularity of the Paper-flow online submissions platform used for the first time for Metal 2016, we are using the same system for abstract and paper submissions for Metal 2019 (https://metal2019.paper-flow.com/). The platform will be live and ready to accept your abstract from February 1, 2018.
