ICOM-CCC Metals Working Group Interim Meeting - Metal 2016 to Feature A Must-See Panel Discussion on Outdoor Public Art

The organizers and program chair of the Interim Meeting Metal 2016 (New Delhi, New Delhi, India from September 26-30, 2016) are pleased to announce a panel discussion titled Conservation Of Outdoor Public Art: Ethics And Decision Making. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the engaging discussion, which will consider issues arising from the controversial treatment of a monumental outdoor sculpture in Mexico City that generated important questions central to the preservation of cultural heritage of all materials.
Moderated by Shelley Smith, Conservator of Sculpture and Objects, Ph.D Candidate University of Delaware, this session will feature panelists who will discuss themes including the ethical implications of treatment, decision making, what is public art, who decides on its treatment, and who should undertake the treatment? Issues of funding and how much politics influences funding, the management of public art and who is responsible, and the artists voice in the dialogue.

The panel takes place on day four of the Interim Meeting, Thursday September 29, from 3:30pm to 5:00pm at the conference venue, the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts.
